FAQ
Q: Are you near the city centre?
A: Yes indeed, it's just over ten minutes' walk or a five-minute bus or underground journey. More details can be found here.
Q: Why do I need to tell you my expected time of arrival?
A: Haus1 is a small independent business with, currently, just four apartments. Unlike a hotel we are not in a position to provide 24-hour reception desk services. Instead we strive to provide the highest levels of personalised service to our guests, and this includes your welcome and introduction on arrival. Naturally we therefore need to know when to expect you!
Q: Can I check in earlier than 4pm?
A: We kindly ask guests to be sensitive to the fact that this is often not possible. Since all guests have the facility to extend their check-out to 13:30, it follows that this potentially only gives us a short time to valet and prepare your apartment in readiness for your arrival. It is therefore very important that we know when you plan to arrive, so that we can pre-arrange either an earlier check-in for you or, as an alternative, luggage storage. Note that if an earlier check-in is possible it will usually be subject to a surcharge.
Q: Why are your apartments called 'Top 12', 'Top 24' and so on? What does 'Top' mean?
A: Simple, really. The word 'Top' is architectural German for 'Unit'. But obviously it also means 'uppermost' in English, which sounds rather cool! So we retained it as a convenient way of referring to the apartments in both English and German.
Q: Is there a lift in the house?
A: No. However, the stairs are relatively broad and shallow and present little difficulty for able-bodied persons. The apartments are on the first and the third floors.
Q: Do you offer room service?
A: For the same reasons as outlined above, i.e. because Haus1 is not a hotel, we do not supply on-site catering. Instead we provide you with a fully-equipped home-from-home, with a huge selection of markets, delicatessens, bars and restaurants on your doorstep. For nonfood service requests just email us from the computer in your apartment and we'll make all the necessary arrangements to fulfil your requirements.
Q: How do I get there from the airport/train station, or by car?
A: Needless to say, being very centrally located means that arrival at Haus1 from any direction is very straightforward. Our booking system automatically sends you full arrivals details after your reservation has been confirmed. You will also be sent a reminder of these details a week prior to your arrival.
Q: The apartment I would like to book appears not to be available. Do you have any other apartments not listed on your website?
A: Unfortunately, no. At present we have just the four apartments, and the availability calendars (which you can see here) are an extremely reliable guide as to what has already been booked and what is still available.
Q: Can I extend my stay for a day or two?
A: Quite simply, this is down to whether or not your apartment has already been booked beyond your original departure date. Under these circumstances we may, subject to availability, be in a position to offer you an alternative apartment.
Q: Can I have friend(s) / relative(s) stay overnight with me from time to time?
A: No problem. Please do note however that this will incur a small surcharge of €15 per night. And please try and give us as much notice as possible when you're expecting guests, so that we can ensure that additional towels and bedding are delivered to your apartment in good time.
Q: Can you provide a child cot?
A: Yes, no problem - but please do let us know in advance if at all possible, as we may already have received similar requests for the same time period.
Q: Are your apartments air-conditioned?
A: Given the solid construction of the house - it was built in 1844 and the walls are over two feet thick - even at the height of summer it is often still tolerably cool indoors. For this reason there is little need for air conditioning. During really hot spells however we can provide fans and portable air conditioning units should the need arise.
Q: Do your apartments have telephones?
A: The ubiquity of mobile phones nowadays makes this largely unnecessary. For communications between apartments and with the Haus1 management there is a computer in each apartment connected to the Haus1 intranet. There is also an intercom system in the house. Finally, you are welcome to use the computer (which has a permanent broadband Internet connection) to run a VoIP application such as Skype.
Q: Is smoking allowed in the apartments?
A: Smoking is not prohibited, but it is actively discouraged! For more information, please read our smoking policy here.
Q: What is the contractual basis of your apartment rentals?
A: This is fully outlined in our Terms and Conditions, which you can read here.
Q: Do you have a car park?
A: Yes! We are fortunate to have our own private courtyard with a limited number of parking spaces, which are available on a first come, first served basis. It costs €12 per 24-hour period. More information is available here.
Q: Do you take pets?
A: Our standard policy is not to accept animals (with the exception of guide dogs). But please do contact us with your specific requirements as we are under certain circumstances prepared to be flexible.
Q: Have your apartments got HiFi systems where I can play my CD's?
A: Every apartment is equipped with a multiformat player, which will accept standard audio CD's, MP3 discs, and DVD's. It will also allow you to connect your iPod or other portable media player.
